Handling Location Codes
A few thoughts on stations/channels with location codes...
Portable/temporary experiments with multiple location codes are unusual, but the as currently implemented, nexus doesn't handle them very well. Currently all channels for a station are listed below a single station, and subsequently assigned the same response, location, and depth. However, the typical use-case for a location code is for two or more sensors that are nominally colocated. This means that different location codes typically have different responses, and very often different depths (ie borehole sensors).
Since nexus currently assigns and builds responses on a station-wise basis, it is not possible to build a stationXML where different location codes have different responses (or depths).
Ideally, different location codes should be split, so that different responses (and depths) can be assigned to them. I'm not sure what the best implementation would be for this, but maybe something like this:
[Network]
↳\[Station\].\[Location code x\]
↳\[Channel 1\]
↳\[Channel 2\]
↳\[Channel 3\]
↳\[Station\].\[Location code y\]
↳\[Channels.... etc\]
I realize this is a somewhat vague issue report, but I'm more than happy to discuss this further.
Thanks!!
