Nexus has a channel-level Sensor Desc. field that goes unused by most. I think that it would be useful if the station-level sensor (and maybe datalogger?) information was automatically propagated to this field. Without anything in the Sensor Desc. field, stationXML files created by Nexus get flagged by a rule 304 error when checked against the IRIS stationXML validator:
304,Error,Z9,M20,DH2,,2018-12-19T20:36:52,2019-09-12T18:06:24,expected equipment/sensor description but was null
I anticipate this modification would allow the community to more easily use Nexus for experiments they archive directly with the DMC (since they prefer stationXML metadata), in addition to any down-the-road usefulness if we transition to sending stationXMLs to the DMC.
This issue has been addressed with the latest release of the StationXMLValidator tool (1.7.5).
